Time flies, I’m turning 30 this year and I’m thinking back to how fast the last 5 years went.
5 years ago I was on a holiday and I think in some ways that felt like a short time ago and other ways it felt like a long time ago.
When I was on that holiday in 2015 I was 25! That was the year I started this site! So at the end of this year this site will be 5 years old! That’s crazy.
5 years before that I was 20. With my entire 20s ahead of me, like I said in some ways it felt slow but it also went really quick.
We often talk of the 70s or the 80s or the 90s and all the culture and technology from those decades and it’s in a lot of movies and stuff and that makes it seem like it was a long time but it was only 10 years and I can see how quick 10 years goes!
One of my favourite movies is the first fast and the furious movies and that came out almost 20 YEARS AGO!
All those cool Japanese import cars like the Toyota Supra and Nissan Skylines that were built in the mid-90s are now 25 year old cars! They are classics now with all the technologically advanced cars and now electric cars coming out.
Back in 2010 the iPhone came out and now everyone is using smart phones, all the technology, apps.
In 2013 I just started using tinder and now it’s the norm.
Time will continue to fly for everyone and technology will change rapidly! (Research how moores law works)
We often dread going to work on Monday at the end of the weekend. Then Monday comes and we dread going in to work, we sign in, but then the first hour goes by pretty quick, then before you know it its mid-morning, then you have a lunch break and you think dam I have 4 hours to go! But time passes and it’s time to leave, then you go home for a few hours then go to bed, then repeat on tues, wed, thurs, Friday, then on Friday everyone’s happy because it’s the weekend! Then you wake up late on Saturday and ease into your day with no plan and then before you know it its lunch time, then on Saturday afternoon you might see you friend for a few hours then it’s time to have dinner and you watch something on Netflix and that’s Saturday over, then you wake up to Sunday and do some other things and before you know it its Sunday night and you think dam that weekend went quick I have to go back to work tomorrow!
That’s one week down.
3 more weeks and that’s a month down.
3 months down and that’s a quarter of the year down.
6 months down. “Wow its half way through the year already!”
Another year gone and your one year older.
You check you Facebook and it shows a memory from your friends party or a vacation you were on “wow that was 3 years ago!” “Wow that was 7 years ago!”
Time goes fast and will go fast for you, it goes the exact same rate for everyone, we all have 24 hours in the day.
Before you know it you will look back and think wow that went fast. I mean, I’m still wearing some of the same clothes and have things from 5 years ago!
So we are aware of how fast time goes, so what do we do?
I won’t say that you MUST SPEND ALL YOUR TIME BEING PRODUCTIVE like some gurus say but it’s important to understand that time goes by fast so you need to sit and think about how you want to spend your time, what you want to achieve and how you will go about doing that.
As you can see in the above example we spend the majority of our time (our life) at work so you want to make sure that what you are doing for work is in align with your goals and how you want to spend your time.
You might have chosen are job mostly for monetary reasons even though it’s really intolerable and that’s ok if the money is important to you In your overall mission.
For others money isn’t the main motivator and they would rather spend their time at work doing something they enjoy more or find more tolerable.
It’s up to you how you wish to spend your time at work.
As for outside of work you want to take action and go after what you want to do. If you keep pushing things into the future you might never do them.
You might want to do a hobby, like tennis, so make a plan and start doing it this year on the weekends or something.
I don’t have any regrets because over the last 5 years I did what I wanted to do because I made a plan and went after it. I saved money, I travelled, I approached lots of girls in real life and on apps and went on dates, I worked out and took care of my health, I read a lot and watched a lot of youtube and documentaries, I reflected a lot, I set up this site and wrote 150 articles and still work on it despite getting pretty much zero comments and less than 100 visitors a day after 5 years of effort, buts it’s all part of how I want to live my time so I love it.
I hope you also understand how fast time will also go for you, you might be 20 years old or younger and think your 20s will go on forever and in some ways it will feel like a long time but it will go fast especially when you start working full time!
So as always think about how you want to spend your life and what you want to do and make a plan and take action and get it!
Good luck guys!
