Expensive Things Are Not Worth It

I saw a Lamborghini Gallardo the other day and thought “wow, that’s so nice, I would love to own that one day” which is the thought many guys have.

Now the Lamborghini Gallardo is not the latest Lamborghini but in Australia where I live they are still around $200,000 AUD. Which is quite a lot of money for a car.

Then I saw another sports car, but this time a popular affordable sports car, the Toyota gt 86, which is about $20,000 AUD. 10 times less in price.

At first I thought that Toyota is so slow compare to the Lambo, the Lambo can accelerate from 0-100kph in 4 seconds and the Toyota does that in about 7 seconds. Then it hit me.

The price of the Lambo is 10 TIMES HIGHER than the Toyota, But NOT 10 TIMES FASTER!!

If the Lambo was 10 times faster from 0-100kph, it would have to complete the stretch in 0.4 seconds which NO PRODUCTION CAR CAN DO.

The Lambo is only 1.75 times faster. In terms of price vs 0-100 time then the Lambo should cost only $35,000.

Some of the fastest cars today like the Porsche 911 Turbo, Tesla Model S and Skyline GTR can do it in around 2.5 seconds.

So I thought some more about this 10x price vs value.

Is the Lambo 10 times more luxurious? NO

Is the Lambo 10 times faster around a track? NO

And here is the most important one..

Will the Lambo offer you 10 times a BETTER HAPPIER LIFE EXPERINCE? NO

And then I thought of this with other expensive things.

Mansions in good locations, boats, first class travel, private jets, clothes, electronics.

Living in a 2 million dollar house on the coast is good but not 10 times better than living in a cheaper house 20 mins inland.

A $600 Ballenciaga tshirt is not 10 times a better experience than a $60 or less t shirt.

Paying 10k for first class will get you where you need to go in the SAME AMOUNT OF TIME as a $1500 economy seat and isn’t 10 times the better experience.

A $1 million dollar boat is not 10 times better than a $10k boat.

Do you see guys? You don’t need to be rich to enjoy a good life. You can be “Average” and still be “Rich” it’s all about how you look at it.

On an average income you can have just as much of a good experience..

Travelling economy and staying at cheaper hotels.

Living in a decent simple house for your needs.

Buying a cheaper luxury or sports car if you are a car guy like me.

Buying cheaper but still good quality stylish clothing.

You don’t need to be rich or aspire to be rich, you can live the good life now!

Think of this to, Let’s say after tax you make $20 an hour, well that $200,000 Lambo is 10000 HOURS OF YOUR LIFE.

The $20,000 Toyota is 1000 HOURS OF YOUR LIFE.

Now I know rich people found a way to earn a lot more per hour but you see the point.

EXPENSIVE THINGS ARE NOT WORTH IT.

So I think if you become rich then sure, go ahead and buy the expensive thing if you want and it won’t put negative pressure on your finances and life but if you aren’t, don’t get upset that you don’t have it because you might think they are having such a good time owning it but you can get a similar experience with something cheaper.

Just think, hundreds of years ago people didn’t have cars, they either had to walk or ride a horse in the hot/humid or cold/rainy weather. Just simply being alive today is LUXURY. Having a used Honda civic with air conditioning is LUXURY compare to a few centuries ago.
